A dedicated board - why of course. I'm sure before long there will be dedicated foils, booties and anything else they can think of to sell in this latest craze.

I decided I had to have one. Tried it out the other day.

Dang it, Randy. I watched it until the end and spilled coffee all over my keyboard. ROFL

Can't blame me - I told you to stop watching. Anyway. I'm getting more skeptical about this thing. My windsurfer is 3.0 M - seemed kind of big but not enough power....A 4 or 5M seems like it would get in the way. (Of course, it possible that the "professional" designers did a better job than me.)

That's what they say about the aftermath of car wrecks but nobody can resist that either. Biggrin

Apparently, the French have figured out a way to foil without kite, sail or wing sail. Only problem is that my wife says I already have too much gear.

Do you think she'd notice if I brought these home?

Very thin ice there AJ - I think those 3 are Sirens (Theixiope, Aglaope, and Parthenope). I'm sure your Greek heritage makes you are well aware of the risks they pose, but in case you are already under their spell, here's a reminder.

"Half-birds, half beautiful maidens, the Sirens were singing enchantresses capable of luring passing foilers to their islands, and, subsequently, to their doom."

https://www.greekmythology.com/Myths/Creatures/Sirens/sirens.html

Their wings are invisible, and that's what's keeping them up.

For those interested, here's a Vixen siren. Not for the sensitive.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

I just got an email from spacesticklab.com - they have the South African wings on hand. 3m $650, 4m $750, 5m $850. And you add $100 for shipping from Cape town. Too bad. My wife just got back from SA yesterday morning. She could have brought some back.

Meanwhile, I just got a over 30 meters of kite fabric, parts, tubes, bladders, bridles, etc from Gene after he got a rare inspiration to do some spring cleaning. I am taking this down to randyssicklab (aka my sweatshop) to see what I can do.

The Man speaks:

Was that Kevin Langeree pumping up on the foil? Speaking of pumping foils, looks like it took a fair amount of it.

Yeah - why can't it easy like pumping a windsurf foiling? Biggrin

Now I know why you have to foil to use these things - you have be 3 feet up to keep them from dragging the on the water.

I do think Robbie is right about one thing - make it all inflatable and w/o any hard parts.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Here is a video from a guy in France I know from the kiting forum I'm on. He seems to have been ahead of the time with his design - quite similar to inflatables - just uses a light semi-rigid frame. Don't see why it wouldn't work on the water. Of course the original ones were rigid, but more like a windsurfing sail and I think a lot heavier.

Looks like a good entry level wing. I think avid practitioners will gravitate to more specialized gear. Still looks like the SUP foil requires 1500cm wing, decent skills and 20+ mph of wind. See around 2:11. I can't imagine it's going to be easy getting on a board like that if you weigh 200lbs in open water with 20-25 of wind. I think they sell a ton of them to the full size board paddle crowd though and you'll see cheap imitations within the year at Costco.

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

I hope you are right. I can just see a commercial on TV with Karl Marx riding a winged SUP saying "Stand Up Paddlers of the world take flight. You have nothing to lose but your boredom."

Who knows maybe the Costco model will be made like a kiddie swimming pool.......wait a minute.....I'm getting an idea. Crazy

Bigwinds has them available for preorder - $749 https://bigwinds.com/products/2019-naish-wing-surfer

Personally, I'm saving that money for a Phantom or Severne sail...

Nice of them to provide flat on view of the wing. Looks like the overall shape is a lot like this. Looks like they just added a spar in the middle to my design. Lol

They added handles. Lots of handles. They've found a trove of late 80s longboards and have been scavenging the footstraps. Biggrin

Re: Naish Wingsurfer

Perfect board for a wingsurfer*.... Yes 3

* because it is (or at least should be) free and you used all your money up on the wingsurfer....unless you use it up first on a high aspect sail.
