Old board and sails - Recycling ?

I have an old board (80's BIC) and 2 old sails (90's Gaastra) I need to get rid of.
Any idea on how to dispose of them ?

I made a kayak sail out of the top of one of my old sails, it works surprisingly well.

Several ideas - none of them good or environmentally friendly.

I've had two boards stolen over the years and one attempted theft/dispose of (trash pick up people tried to haul it away - boater started yelling at them. He was sure the perp/employee was going to keep it.) All 3 times it happened at Tidwell. So go there and leave your board near the trash cans and go out sailing. Might take a few tries, as I've sailed there dozens (maybe hundreds) of times.

You might also go to river when the current is high and act like you are going to SUP. Then by accident let the board get away from you and pretend to be chasing it - for a while.....walk back with a very sad look on your face.

Give them to Webguy - tell him you saw someone cut the nose off this board online and it looked really cool.

Sails - I used removed the battens, cams, and the like for replacement purposes. Then you can fold it up an put it in the trash. After never breaking a batten for 20 years I have a lot of spare battens.....

My main way of getting rid of a board is selling it, but if that is out of the question I have sawed them into pieces and put them in trash bags or took them to an office park and put them in a big dumpster. Pro tip 1: don't do the sawing in anyplace where you would mind getting thousand of little foam particles all over the place. Pro Tip 2: Check for any security cams near the dumpster.

I also know a guy who found a old original windsurfer in his neighbors trash and took it home - used it for a couple of years and even gave people lessons on it out at Lake Acworth. Might try putting it out prominently in the trash.

Finally, list the items on Craigs List for $1000 or so. Claim they are also useful for SUP. That seems to be what most people do.

I just remembered the best way to get rid of a board (or any gear) that is now useless. Wrap it in gift wrap and bring to the Gift Exchange at the Annual Holiday Party. You can't not lose it......

Thanks, Randy, for hosting the party this year as sometimes gifts get "accidentally" left behind.

Other uses of an old board: nice grass sled for Vann's Tavern. Always wanted to do that. Probably pretty fun while the water is up.

Thanks you guys for all the great advices with special mention to Randy and his imagination (sounds like real life comments though...).
I like Webguy comment about Vann’s. Maybe we will do that, and put it on Craigslist with picture explaining on how to use it. That may boost the price to $2,000 ... enough to pay for the ER visit . ?

Short board, looks like an Astro Rock (285x61 - 125L). Was repainted with non skid paint, all white. I am dropping it on the curb with "free" sign ... We'll see.

Put it on the curb with a $500 sign on it and somebody will steal it.

Or

Bring it to the next Windsurfing Christmas party as a White elephant gift.

A shame it was painted. Those old Bics had Michi Eskimo designs that must have been done while he was dropping acid. Or, maybe that's exactly why it was painted. F2 had some funky designs, too. I'm saying all this as the owner of a Tabou that has an alien sporting a full dingus on nose.

Those weren't bad boards for some place like Hatteras. If you already have a decent shortboard, it will seem absurdly narrow but they did turn pretty well.

Alan had the same suggestion that Randy did. If I host another party, neither are invited. Biggrin
