Commuting in Hilton Head

I got the chance to visit Atlanta transplant Tim Carter who moved to Hilton Head a few years back. Unlike my 50 minute trip to Van Pugh, Tim gets to the water in about 10 minutes. He bikes on paths from his house to the beach.

Here's his cool trailer loaded up with both his Windsup (a good choice that day) and my Tabou 116l (not a good choice that day). The best thing about the trailer is that it rolls easily on the sand so he parks his bike at the parking lot and rolls all the gear to the water's edge. Having the trailer there also means much less sand is involved in rigging and derigging as he can rinse the sand and leave it on the trailer while dealing with something else.

He sails off the beach at the beach club in Sea Pines where he lives if it's anything east and/or seabreeze. West winds favor the bottom of the island but I forget what he called it. The beach has a gentle slope so the shore break is relatively tame until it's really honking.

Tower Beach is the place on the south end. Mind the sand bars ?
