Anyway, I think that does it - no more kitesurfing at Lake Lanier. You know how kites are attracted to trees.
On a serious note - West Point would be amazing for kites, especially with the water down a bit. The land slopes more gently so more beach is exposed for the equivalent change in water level.
Do you know why West Point is down when everything else is up?

Can only guess that most of the rain these last few weeks has occurred to the north but we certainly have sent a bunch of water that way. I can say that the 'hooch below West Point Dam is very full. I think they are letting it out as fast as it's coming in. When I went down before in January, I was very surprised the lake was down about 6-8 feet while Lanier was over full pool. I also wonder if Lanier is better suited to be above full pool with its steeper banks.
Wow! Terrible sail report. I can't recall if a windsurfer was ever pick up by rescue before. All the broken gear and floating debris. Sure am glad I wasn't on the water. With my history, I would have probably been in the middle of that sail report.
I remember being pushed down wind to Bozo with Gene and I remember being pushed all the way to the campground. Very embarrassing.
Radny, I'm furthering my theory
Flood level vs summer pool and current level for select lakes (source: https://www.weather.gov/ffc/rrm but lake levels look a day old)
Lake Allatoona 860 840 845.90
Lake Lanier 1085 1071 1076.08
West Point Lake 641 635 629.66
Looks like Lanier has more reserve than other lakes. The high elevation of flood pool at Lanier is why the "Corps Line" is so far up from shore around the lake - the Army owns generally that extra 20-25 feet of elevation and severely restricts activity on it. That's what makes the lake seem quite green compared to similar lakes where there is development all the way to the shoreline.
8 kiters at Old Fed on 9 and 10m kites, strong and gusty but fun! Big waves and lots of debris! With the water over the point and even around the central tree, it made for a narrow launch zone but a pretty easy entry. You could sit down in the flooded grass, put your board on and kite out and return by riding over the rock wall. The beach and rock wall was getting hammered, but the shallow grassy area behind it was flat, like taking off from your front yard!

Otherwise, it was a pretty day.

I think with a lot of us getting older, getting a ride back to shore won't be uncommon. I expect to see this van more frequently in the parking lot.

Seems like on the big NW days when the water is near the parking lot at Van Pugh, Old Federal would be a much better place to launch.
