West Point Field Trip Sunday?

I haven't been down in a while and don't know if the parks are open there but the Euro model is calling for a set up Sunday where it may blow down a little there and not be miserably cold.

Are you foiling?
As many times as I have been Mountain biking the lakeside trails I cant believe I have never windsurfed down there.
The trail head parking lot area looks like a great place to launch for anything NE to W.

If I feel any better by tomorrow I may join you.

There are some great places to launch on both sides of the dam. Is that what you are talking about?

Hope you feel better. Yes, foiling. Biggrin

Please let us know how it goes. Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: West Point Field Trip Sunday?

I went, I saw, but I did not foil. (Apologies to Caesar).

Drive down wasn't bad. Seeing the temp outside at 36 didn't hurt any. Not much traffic. Door to door, it's an hour an a half. Launched from Schaefer Heard Day Use Area on the east side of the lake about ten minutes north of West Point (the direct way in is to exit at the Kia plant.

It's a good launch area for anything west and there's another park across the lake by the dam for east winds. Lots of open area to rig and the water is pretty close. The lake is down about 6 ft in the winter which means the beach is really rocky. Some parts have a bit of erosion but there are places to get easily down to the water

Kiters, this is a great spot for you. With the water down, there is plenty of room to launch and even with the water up, I'd imagine it's not bad. Think a larger version of Vann's Tavern.

It was a balmy 45 when I got there. The water is noticeably warmer than Lanier (ie you don't feel it bite when you get in) But the breeze never filled in. I had the steadiest 5-8 imaginable with no puffs to drive the board up on the foil. So, I didn't foil but, over all, the trip was a success. The park is spacious, the water has never been crowded when I've been down there. If conditions merit, I'd definitely suggest it.

Thanks for the report. Bummed I couldn't make it.

I like it down there, Water is much cleaner than it used to be. West Point has great fishing and hunting and 11 miles of nice flatish mountain bike trails beside the dam.
Shaefer Heard Campground is nice too if anyone is up for a whole weekend down there sometime.
