Sunday Oct 28... Who/Where today?

South wind in the forecast... is it real? Would like to get some feelers before I get too excited! Where should one go with this direction should the wind materialize?

Today seems more like WSW so on Lanier the places where most windsurfers would likely go are Old Federal and Van Pugh. Less traveled options would be Two Mile or Keith's Bridge. Kiters are more likely to be found at Old Federal while Windsurfers might be more inclined for VP.

For Alatoona Galts Ferry is usually the best spot, but the forecast for that side of town is SW which is not a great direction there.

As an added detraction seems like there might be sailboat racing right in front of the launch at Galts today (as was the case yesterday.) Not a big deal, but it could be annoying. (Perhaps more for them than the windsurfer.)

Sweetwater might be the best place for SW, but I'm not sure it is open to the public now.

Check the Places to Windsurf Wiki for Maps, etc.

Yes, the models are pretty consistent - but actually calling SW (south is not very common here). Some of us are going to Van Pugh but there is a significant wind shadow there on the way out of about 100-200 yds before you get to the wind line. Old Federal has a much smaller wind shadow and there are likely to be at least kiters there.

I'm off to Van Pugh because the longer runs on the foil are worth the wind shadow. btw, both places require a Corps parking pass available at the gate only by credit card. If you chose the annual pass, you'll get a receipt which you then either have to mail or take by the Corps office at the dam to get a permanent hang card. The receipt, however, is good for seven days so no need to rush off (they are closed today anyways).

The water is still warmish but some neoprene will be good to have.

Don't you have to also know the secret handshake to get in?

Awesome sauce! I’m on Lanier so I’ll probably head to VP or the sailing club, thanks for all of the info and see you on the water !

Lake Juliette is great for S, SW winds and people living south of Atlanta.
The Campground just reopened on 9/29. It Is run by the state now and is open year round.

Straight in at LLSC. Some whitecaps. Nobody here but me. William is alone at Van Pugh. Rigging 6.5 for foil, anticipating more wind.

Windlord and I were at VP. He longboarded, I did the foily thing. Pretty dialed for the day on a 7.7 except when I first went out and about 5 min of 20 mph absolutely kicked my butt. Gene stopped by to say hello. A little up and down but it was 70 degrees so I'm not complaining.

Edit: My bad - forgot to give a shout out to Bill let me use some ding stick after I put a dent in my board.

Thanks to Chris for inviting us to the Sailing Club. I arrived with wind directly on-shore and headed out in sub-planing conditions. Then the wind kicked in. I was sizzling along on my JP Super Light wind board & 8.5 sail. The fin produced a nice harmonic tone as it sliced though the water. What a beautiful sunny, warm afternoon.
