New post: Pole Surfer's Got Nice Moves

One of the best windsurfing videos I've seen in a while.

And while I was channel surfing last night, this one by the same Aussie account was good too with some great drone shots.Flat water sailing for us mortals (don't miss the drone eff-up!)

btw, this location is just south of Sydney. https://goo.gl/maps/i7jMsECKAzm Explains the Aussie penchant for 7.8 race sails and 100 liter boards.

This guy can absolutely fly a drone. (Time for Alan to up his game or Barrett to invite him to Nags Head Biggrin )

Sunset sail

Thread where he talks about it and sets up the filming of the clip in the first post. He also posted some stills. A 4k video camera takes some pretty good pics.

Well here's the video from Saturdays action!

It was a hard day to film because many of my shots were not usable because the drones gimbal would freak out once the wind got above 25 knots. Some of the gusts were well in excess of 30 knots and the drone was struggling, in some of the clips I was having a hard time following the sailors because the drone was going at max speed. The read out on the screen was saying around 70km/h so that means guys were pushing 40 knots in some of the shots. The combination of the drone at max speed and 30 knot cross winds really tested the limits of the Phantom 4 but it held up admirably.

There were quite a few other good shots I had that unfortunately I couldn't use as the gimbal went all over the place.

I also managed to hit my first windsurfer after filming many hours of windsurfing over the last couple of years. Tony Wills was the lucky winner and the drone did a 10-15cm cut into his new Severne Mach 1 sail. I felt really bad about it as I saw him walk the rig back across the lake but he was super cool about it and said some sail tape should fix it up. We both agreed some cool shots of him in the video would be payment for the repair.

Anyway hope you like the vid!

*Choose 4K in YouTube settings if you have fast internet it looks way better!

Cheers,
Paul

Those drone shots are amazing. Alan is invited to join us in Nags Head. Rhett got a nice drone shot on a calm day, but so far no one has been willing to take a drone oven the water when the wind is blowing. The next dates are Oct. 6 - 20.

I considered buying a small drone for our recent Bonaire trip, but since last year special permission is required from the park service due to concern about disturbing birds.

More drone shots. Paul takes a trip to Oahu and Diamond Head. First three minutes are travelogue and the rest are a good idea of what real people wave sailing looks like. Note how they have to slog out with the board under water most of the time.
