When you are so desperate, your post doesn't even go in the "Desperate Times" thread.

Seriously, Langdon is the man. Time on the water is just that - not doing real work, yard work, home work, work. Enjoy the soul session and stay away from that electric stuff. Good

Re: Thursday Sunset cruise

I have been practicing sailing back winded. I'm not saying CP would be proud of me yet but I am improving.

Also practicing gybing the longboard around buoys.

These warm (ok, hot) low wind days would be great for someone getting into the sport to get out and practice

Also during the week there is minimal boat chop as opposed to the weekend where people who are practicing to sail around Cape Horn come to Lanier to see if they can handle the waves

Hey guys,

Chris M. here. Where do you all go to check wind forecast?
I've been on Windfinder but found myself driving to the lake several time hoping for 7-8+ and finding nothing at all and having to turn around.
Eager to try that new Sailworks retro 7.5 delivered on fathers day!

The NWS forecast wind graph can be displayed on this website. Go to the home page near the upper left band click the weather tab.

I also check the National Weather Service graphical forecast directly. You can find it on the NWS forecast for Gainesville, GA at the bottom right of the page. Select the Hourly Forecast box and it enlarges showing two days worth of data. There are a number of boxes at the top. Make sure you check the one for surface wind. You can also click on the box "forward 2 days" to see the forecast for future dates.

Thank you, Sir!
I'll load the gear in the car before I leave for work tomorrow am.

Tomorrow morning is looking more interesting. Dave D (kite) is pondering going too.

cmontouchet, just hang out here if you are uncertain about the forecast. We're pretty good at spotting something several days out and can give you the skinny on what looks like actual wind. Barrett is correct, a bunch of links on the front page. Windfinder isn't real strong here. Also, note that different models will give different forecasts - windy.com, for example, lets you look at several.

Windfinder works, use Flowery Branch for location and click on the superforecast for the hourly. For Thursday, thinking Vanns in the morning.

No harm in sailing in the morning and in the evening.
I even recommend it

Chris M,
If you are new to windsurfing I can change my launch to Vanns Tavern. It might be better for you there.
I will probably be on the water by 6 - 6:30pm.

A good video whether you windsurf in the morning or evening. Sam Ross: Getting into the footstraps.

I will keep working on shoving my feet into those board carrying handles.

Here is a challenge for you foilers. ( and you will not need a GoPro mount anymore)

Re: Thursday Sunset cruise

Not quite a newbie.
First rodeo was on a Windsurfer in the seventies when mast foot was plywood only holding with mast pressure. Uphauling in waves meant a good chance of lifting the mast foot right into the family jewels. Jewels and ego survived with the help of better engineered tendons and improving skills.
VP is much closer for me when I try to escape from work on a weekday, but thanks for the offer.

The challenge is my wife. I'm not sure she's up for me foiling with a young French hottie. If I were young and single... but, both those ships have sailed.

Re: Thursday Sunset cruise

The challenge in our household is my wife is ready to foil holding a GoPro, but doubts my capability. This photo taken in Bonaire when I was only 65 y.o.

Re: Thursday Sunset cruise

Pat, William, Chris M. & I mostly slogged around until around 2:30PM when the wind suddenly picked up from the East. I departed the group before 4PM to beat the traffic. We got nice rides and what turned out to be a fun time. My JP Super Light Wind board & 8.5 sail got me up on a plane with only an occasional whitecap in sight.
