Dawn Patrol Saturday and Sunday

I hope to sail early Saturday at Vanns...maybe get there around 8 or so. Or if it keeps the N in the NE we can go to Van Pugh if that works better for others.

Watching Sunday morning as well

I'm hoping that the rain in the forecast (later in the day) will discourage the boating crowd on Saturday at least.

windy.com (both euro and gfs) suggests that's rain. Should be good East in our direction earlier in the day.

Tropics are picking up just after a bunch of researchers gave up and said nothing was going to happen because the Atlantic was cooler than normal (Saharan dust and brisk trade winds to blame - don't start rolling coal just yet).

When NWS forecasters get salty that all the models completely missed the now Hurricane Beryl in the Atlantic

Quote:
The cyclone is also now likely to persist beyond the 72-hour forecast point, and a 96-hour point has therefore been added to the official forecast, showing Beryl near or over Hispaniola by day 4. By that point, either increased shear or the terrain of Hispaniola would likely lead to dissipation. But we shall see.

Shout out to Foildood - this weekend is shaping up to be interesting.

Edit: Looks like the NC coast might see some weather soon as well next week.
Edit edit: Rodanthe next week on windmapper. It's likely to change but ... interesting

Re: Dawn Patrol Saturday and Sunday

Early recap: ,Four so far today at Vann's. Langdon and CP on longboards. I windfoiled on 6.7 w/big wing and Roger kitefoiled on a 17. Roger and I had a blast until rain shut down things for a while and we left Langdon and Chris to enjoy the afternoon.

Roger got going just a bit sooner than I did. If he could get the kite in the air, he was good to go. Once we were both up, we seemed to be able to carry on all the way across.

Langdon relived the glory of his NIMBY (Shell Point) regatta and proceeded to sail way upwind. He's digging the long board.

If the forecast holds, we'll be back tomorrow. The geese weren't there but left plenty of calling cards.

Re: Dawn Patrol Saturday and Sunday

The wind picked up and stayed up until I was exhausted. Wind would change direction from NE to N and blow fairly hard. CP and I took the longboards upwind to Royal Marina for a while.
We ditched the longboards around 3 as the wind increased some more. Mauricio CP and I were all planing around 4. I had all I wanted with the 7.5m

Going to rest up and try again Sunday morning around 10 at Vanns

I would love to say that the water was flat like in this video

But...it wasn't

Although it's cold (69) and a long drive, I think I'll head to Vanns Tavern this am, eta 9.30 - 10.

The view early this morning when it was cranking. Three kites and seven eight* windsurfers turned up. Two kitefoils and two windfoils when it wasn't so crazy.

* Counting CV who was across from us

Yes. This Gene

Long drive? We Atlantans laugh and mock you. Biggrin

But, it was great to see him and everyone else. (Except the geese.)

Roll call:
Roger (k/f), Alejandro (k/f), Dave D. (k), me (w/f), Langdon, Gene, Ed, Dmitri, Tim, Mauricio, Chris V.(w/f)
Seven on this list weren't either living in Atlanta or on the water five years ago. So much for windsports being dead around here.

Hope everyone enjoyed the wind over the weekend. Here is my windsport forecast for the next month or so.

Hot, humid, partly cloudy and chance of coyote?

Hey Randy... I got a plan to help you with your summertime windless blues

https://www.bigassfans.com/

A couple agricultural pond liners and a few misc other things...land with a old warehouse on it, permits , a working fire hydrant, etc

Or....roadtrip to the coast
