New "Original" Windsurfer

Interesting discussion. These Aussies are a humorous bunch. It is one of the linked articles on the right hand side, but thought it deserved it's own spot.

Does sound like they've done a very good job with the board from reading the reviews. I could see a few locals buying one at the price they're paying there: (converted to $US) $563 for class members, 825 for non-members for the bare board. Epoxy construction from the Cobra factory, EVA deck.

Re: New "Original" Windsurfer

I'd love to sail one. I sailed an ancient Original Windsurfer once, at Lake Acworth. The soft sail and board shape made it a very good light wind board. It seems there have been a few iterations now on rebooting the Windsurfer. Wonder if this one will stick and gain some traction anywhere else in the world.

I see there is an organization now that promotes races in Europe at least. Who knows, perhaps this could make windsurfing great again......(sorry couln't resist.)

fyi, pretty sure that the guy who posted that is not a big fan of the Wally.

WHAT A SCAM

btw, if anyone is curious for a Bic 293 hull, there was one up in Nashville on CL the other day, iirc.

It's not high tech but I've got really nice bikes and 40 yr old bikes and on some days the 40 yr old bikes can be a hoot. (I'll get out the foil first, though.)

Yeah - those guys in Oz get downright nasty on their forums from time to time- and not just Seabreeze. But I still thought it was funny, not really knowing any of the players.

It was pretty funny but the others easily took offense and he didn't have the social skills to back off a touch. Like a bunch of adolescent boys getting wound up about something.

This is interesting - and just to show you where I'm coming from, when I first noted the shirts, I didn't perceive them as the dig or burn that was the intention, but rather thought to myself " Cool slogan - I could get onboard with that."

I'm pretty sure that I've done as much as anyone to make windsurfing slow.

I've been in an alternative dimension ever since the 70's. I think it started when I saw "The Seventh Seal" and "Rashomon" on the same night.

Re: New "Original" Windsurfer

According to surf-magazin.de
(google translate)

Quote:

During Foil Camp in mid-June on Lake Garda, Robby looked at the new windsurfer board, which is eight inches [cm] wider, but at 15 pounds significantly lighter than the original windsurfer. "Naish will also have the board produced with its logo, the first boards will be delivered with our logo at the end of August."

Besides Naish, Starboard and other brands also want to jump on the idea of producer Cobra, who manufactures the board. Folding [centerboard], a 5.7-rigged with lightweight carbon mast and aluminum [boom] are the other modifications.

Width increased to 74cm. Carbon mast instead of concussion inducing epoxy and 32 lbs instead of 44. Big difference. I'd imagine this would sell like hot cakes in FL.

Saving nickels for a beginner foil for Gene, Myself and others to learn on.

This schlooging whilst the foilers are flying is not cool

Yes. Yes you did

Back to original thread topic

I have had a blast with the longboard and attempting to learn some sail handling.
For me... just cruising around or picking a destination way upwind and see how quickly I can get there has been both enjoyable and challenging.

I am glad that CP got me started longboarding
