I don't recall Lanier ever being higher than it is now. Could be a bit of a mess. Think I will stick to Toona.

Quote:
Lake Lanier ended 2015 by hitting its highest levels in nearly 36 years, according to historical data held by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The data shows the lake peaked at 1,075.48 feet on Dec. 31. The last time it had a higher level was on April 3, 1980, when waters peaked at 1,075.54 feet.

Looks like we are at 1075.25 ish this morning but don't know if late last night's rain (after yesterday's rain) has made it downstream yet.

This morning I realized the likelihood of tragedy in the next couple of weeks on the 'hooch from the high water. With the start of hurricane season, they must be wanting to dump water like mad. At least the oysters in Apalachicola Bay are happy.*

Just read that the discharge rate will be lower on weekends, ie tomorrow.

Edit: Just looked at the radar - more rain on the way.

* an oft-cited reason why Lanier discharges were forced to continue during the severe drought 12 years ago.

Yesterday afternoon
Radar estimate shows one spot of 10+" and lots of 5"+. Shok

I think there is a solution to this problem. We send the water down to FLorida and then they can use it to fill all their sinkholes.

BTW - I think now there is a real chance that at least some of the parks close as the parking lots fill up with water.

Got a little frisky at LLSC this afternoon. Measured 45 knots at the clubhouse
The board that was on top of the sail got launched through a split rail fence and landed about 50 feet away. Neither the fence nor the board are in great shape.

Cray 2

I am so sorry. I got off the water around 3 at VP after hearing thunder and went home - I thought I was just ducking some rain. Now I know why Langdon texted me asking if I was okay.

(You know that this pic is going to become internet famous, right?)

Edit: Airport concurs with the meter at the clubhouse.

Chris,

That one tops even Charlie Brown. Send that picture to the local press and TV stations. I bet it makes the front page. You ought to get something for your misery. Now, I don't feel so badly about staying at home today......

Cold. Just cold.

I showed that picture to one of my former clients and he said "I hope he had good insurance." Unfortunately, if you bought cut rate insurance for wind damage to windsurfing equipment, this kind of mayhem could be on you.

Meh. Tape, epoxy. All set. Good
Got about an hour of foiling on that same gear yesterday. Clearing line at 6:20 was the ticket.
