NWS -Special Weather Advisory Warning

The National Weather Service has Issued a Special Weather Advisory for Hall, Forsyth, Cobb, Fulton and Cherokee Counties:

NO WIND ADVISORY

WINDS...South to East Winds: calm gusting to 5 MPH with intermittent rain over the next several days.

* IMPACTS...Calm g 5 winds will create boring sailing and dangerous kiting
conditions on Lakes Lanier, Acworth, and Allatoona. These winds will
create very still waters which could cause small windsurfing craft to become dead in the water exposing operators to long exposure to the elements possibly resulting in sun burn, webbed feet and hands, and a foul disposition.
Kitesurfing kites are likely to stay earthbound, creating hazards when power boaters get tangled in lines.
For your personal safety...operators of these small craft are
urged to postpone their outings until some actual winds appear.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Lake No Wind Advisory indicates that lack of winds will cause still waters
on area lakes. If you do venture out onto the lakes bring a paddle to aid in returning to shore
and stay close to shore or in protected coves and inlets where it is possible to swim back to shore. Water wings are highly recommended. It is strongly recommended windsurfers and kitesurfers relocate to the safety of locations such as Aruba, Bonaire, the Outer Banks or San Francisco Bay to operate their craft.

THIS ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

I plan to set adrift off the coast of Vanns Tavern on your old board around lunch tomorrow.
I will be the one wearing SpongeBob water wings... (in the case that there may be others on the water who also suffer from Despiration Sailing Syndrome)

No wind? No problem.

(Pumping like that is harder than it looks, though)

thanks, Langdon, for the heads up.

A possible project for Webguy and Randy to work on during these days without wind.

Re: NWS -Special Weather Advisory Warning

I have another project for now wind days. There have been a lot of cases over the years of kites being banned at certain locations. I've discovered a work around for that. Here are a couple of pictures of the Stealth Kite. Uses a whole new technology that I discovered.

In flight. Like everything else lately, not enough wind to get a real flight in. Free prize to anyone who can find the kite and draw a circle around it.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner since no one defined the allowable size of the circle. Biggrin

Already got one. Putting thrusters and chopping the nose of another Mistral green board. And maybe a little rhinoplasty on a Naish. At this rate, I should pony up for a vacuum bag.

AJ - you nailed it. Free attaboy for you.

Webster - I think TVAW was really thinking about the wing as the project. But, I know you only like wings that go under the water.

It's not that I like wings that go underwater. It's just that's where they all end up. Cray 2

Doing the "Wild Thang" (flying a hull by sitting on the lee side) in ONE KNOT of wind. Shok

In the first video the kite is 4m and there does not appear to be a lot of wind.

Here he is with a 3.5m

TVAW - With all those kites in the air and the camera guy kitesurfing, it makes me think the wind is stronger than it looks. I see whitecaps.

FoilDood - to copy a saying from racing "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

But, who needs any wind to foil. All you need is good technique and a little bit of physical fitness.

Some days, I just want to go, fast or not. For a couple of years, I've been looking (and saving) for a Hobie 18 Magnum (with wings). Every once in a while one would pop up in California, Texas or Michigan. But last week Eric R. put me onto one in Cartersville, GEORGIA. Scooped up a sweet deal on this baby, just in time for the doldrums.

I think there is more wind aloft. That's an efficient boat but I'm not sure it can do 4x wind speed. I could be wrong. I need to go vomit, though. Made the mistake of reading the comments.

Ok - I wanna see Foildood in his Hobie go up against Gene in his laser. Race from Vann's Tavern to West Bank park and back. In fact, if any other Atlanta Windsporter has a "real" sail boat to race they should join in as well.

Turned out to be a good day at Vanns.
Started off a bit light but it filled in pretty good by 4.

Dang, that's what I get for being a pessimist. I did finally get enough wind to fly my stealth kite.
