kiting around ATL in the next few weeks?

I'm a mildly experienced kite boarder looking for a good place to go kiting (Tybee Island?) and some folks to share in the fun. Anyone interested in joining up for a trip to the coast?

Welcome, Dan. If you don't hear from the local kiters, let me know and I'll put you in touch. Thanks for joining us.

With the water up, Lanier will be tough this summer but if there is a good local day, take a look at Vann's Tavern or Old Federal Parks, depending upon wind direction. Also, I think some guys are looking to do a Tampa/St. Pete/Tarpon Springs trip soon so keep an eye out for that. Most of us who'd planned trips to OBX are back now but wind should be good up there until mid to late June.

Hey Dan, Tybee is good for kiting. Go to the very South end and there is really nice, large sandbar. Watch the tides, you want an outgoing tide and incoming wind. Tougher if tide and wind are going same way. Works best on East or South wind and this time of year it can build in the afternoon. Close enough for a day trip, but watch forecast and tides to make sure it's worth it. Also, Destin area and Tarpon Springs are nice locations if forecast is good!
