Re: Sixth sense

I've been scanning the foiling videos online.... I'm intrigued.
Considering buying a beginner type foil to put on an old Bic techno 148. Any suggestions on a foil to look at from the foil experts?

I already have the techno I got from you. It's just sitting in Jon's barn collecting dust.

See if Rhett wants to part with his Slingshot, (I think he got something else). Might also engage the kids at North Beach WS in St. Pete. Britt & Karen are trying out and selling lots of different brands. They prolly have a take what might work for you.

I have an even better sense about the sixth. (NWS f'cast)

CP will recognize this as a crab claw sail, I believe.

Re: Sixth sense

Randy did you make that sail?
I could use one like that for our canoe.

Yes - it's a DIY. I needed to make one for my Kayak Sailing Merit Badge. There are lots of sources on this. I pretty much followed this guy. There are some commercial versions out there, though not particularly cheap.

There is also this which may work just as well on a kayak. This is a knock off of a product called wind paddle. I'm going to get one before long.

Big wings like the Slingshot and Naish make for easier take-offs when you are starting. The Pryde wings tend to take a bit more wind. The Zeeko gets a good write up by the French and the Manta is another affordable alternative.

The prices in $ are usually comparable because we don't have to pay VAT. Shipping is usually around $100ish from overseas.

A drawback of the Slingshot is that it uses M10 (Jim C or Pat P were correct - I was thinking M8) bolts rather than the usual M6 Tuttle bolts so you have to do a little drilling. Comment to others as I'm sure I've bored Alan with this: Longer masts seem ridiculous at first and if you are flush, maybe start out with a 70cm mast. But, after your first few flights and especially in chop, the long mast does a better job of keeping the wings under water and less bad things happen. When the wings get close to the surface, they cavitate, stall and you pretty much fall 2 ft straight down flat.

Or, get a Gofoil (they are actually pretty pricey) and turn your Bic into a kite SUP. Some assembly, cutting and epoxy work required. Shok

Re: Sixth sense

So is that for real? You are a master of photoshop. If is is, then I'm on the right track I think. Marry my 10 year old BIC kayak to a 1 M PVC plastic/ripstop sail and The diy foil KIT and I'm a foiler! Yes 3

Social networks helping, a few seconds of video or a simple photo are enough today to really ignite the web ... And this is the case since Friday morning on Facebook with a photo posted by Cyril Coste , French waterman and founder of the stand up paddle brand Lokahi, who has just unveiled the latest experiments for the less accomplished windSUPfoil , the idea is to put a small sail in front of a SUP board to take off more easily and enjoy even better ( and more!) descents in the downwind swell.
Concept quite serious on which works Cyril Coste for many months, in collaboration withJean-Jacques Deboichet for the foil (founder of the famous windsurf fins Deboichet), the concept of windSUPfoil brings according to the interested a permanent and constant propulsion which makes it possible to fly in foil more easily or to swallow swell more quickly , foil or not elsewhere.
If kinship with windsurf as we know it is certainly distant (whatever ...), this is certainly an idea that has made its way and will be a reality in shops in a few months, Cyril Coste having created a full-fledged business entity, Takuma , which will feature this amazing concept as well asfoils for the disciplines of kitesurfing, windsurfing and SUP!

Randy, do I ever let a friend down? Okay, do I do it often? Okay... this , and the tooth fairy, is real.

Wow! I'm betting that before long everybody will be converting to SUP V Sail Foil Riding. I'm going have to see if I can mount my sail on my WindSup. Time to head to the drawing board.
