The Seventh Seal

Looks like maybe the wind took the afternoon off at Lanier, but not at Galts. First try at the lake with the v-sail. Wind ranges from 10 ish on up to sand blowing on the beach. More is not always better, but for wind it usually is, until it isn't.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Well... that was a cheery read. Short version: almost a perfect example of the dark and depressing Scandinavian movie trope. Glad your video wasn't directed by Bergman

Re: The Seventh Seal

I thought it was actually quite uplifting - after all the hero cheated death.

"After hearing Death state "No one escapes me", Block knocks the chess pieces over, deliberately distracting Death while Jof's family slips away....."

Jof is a lesser character. Block, the knight, doesn't make it. Cray 2

Quote:
After hearing Death state "No one escapes me", Block knocks the chess pieces over, deliberately distracting Death while Jof's family slips away. Death places the pieces back on the board, then wins the game on the next move. He announces that when they meet again, the knight's time—and that of all those traveling with him—will be up. Before departing, Death asks if the knight has accomplished his one "meaningful deed" yet; Block replies that he has.

Block is reunited with his wife, Karin (Inga Landgré), the sole occupant of his castle (all the servants having fled). The party shares one "last supper" before Death comes for them. The knight prays to God, "Have mercy on us, because we are small and frightened and ignorant."[12] The mute servant girl speaks her only line: "It is finished."

Meanwhile, away from the castle, Jof's family sits out a storm which the juggler interprets to be "the Angel of Death... and he's very big". The next morning, the juggler, with his second sight, sees the knight and his followers being led away over the hills in a solemn Dance of Death.

This guy is a pretty good chess player. Rarely loses.

Re: The Seventh Seal

It has been a long time since I watched it. It seems to be a perfect companion to accompany wind draughts (such as now) to completely blacken the mood.

What is not widely known is that there was a deleted scene where Block, Death and Father time sit around talking about Block's windsport prospects:

Father time: "Block you are now getting too old for windsport. I am undefeated. I will soon render you incapable of even the easiest of windsports. Before you know it, you will be flying single line kites with little kids and sailing a kayak down the river."

Death: "Yes. You might as well give up and come with me now, I always win anyway."

Block: "Oh, wtf. Father time is undefeated, Death always wins and there isn't any wind in Atlanta anyway. I might as well go with you. Is there wind in the afterlife?"

Death:"Not for for guys who spent Sunday mornings at the lake instead of church and used their extra money on windsport toys, instead of donating it to charity."

Block: "How about a game of chess then...."

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
