...why yes, some of us had fun. CP scooted around on the Superlight, I foiled on the 6.0 and Barrett was solid on his 8.5. Gene ate lunch and Shred Dog, in his optimism, left all the gear that would have been useful home. Puffy but pleasantly warm.

Gusty. Sometimes 5, sometimes 20. 74 degree air on top of 50 degree water makes for an interesting day. As Ed observed Sunday, it's interesting how warm it gets during the gusts that move the cold air off the water.

Moment of the day: gliding so silently on the foil that I could hear the hundreds of sandhill cranes (according to Barrett; I had thought they were geese) flying in Vs overhead.

Re: Friday West Wind

Friday’s warm, winter windsurfing session was capped off by a spectacular migration of sandhill cranes passing overhead. One photo I took shows approximately 250 cranes, so I’m guessing there were up to a thousand visible at one time - quite an amazing sight! I believe the birds we saw were the greater sandhill crane species. The males of this species have a wingspan of almost 7 feet. Their distinctive calls filling the air, combined with their numbers and impressive size created a memorable spectacle of nature.

Which foilers can hear while out on the water. Biggrin

Great photo, Barrett. I've seen the migrations before and always thought they were geese. The calls are, indeed, distinctive. There have been times I've heard the calls and then had to strain to see the flock of hundreds of birds maybe a thousand feet or more up in the sky.
