Saturday 1.20.18

Dots in the forecast, but will the parks be open? Time to dust off the thread from last time around. As I recall during the last government shutdown it took a few days before anyone got around to closing the gates.

I heard on the radio that any park that charges a fee will remain open during the shutdown. Just because there is a government shutdown doesn’t mean parks have to close, its up to White House. The previous administration for some reason decided to close all the parks when we had our last shutdown.

Our parks normally charge a fee, but in the off-season there is no one there to collect the fees. Sometimes the Park Police would come around and check for passes. So still seems up in the air.

I guess I should at least drive by the river and see what's going on. It is not a for fee park, but the COE is in charge of it. Sort of since Roswell Police are also involved.

Motorists have been barred from entering Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.

Screening at Transportation Security Administration security checkpoints at At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is continuing. TSA officers at checkpoints, along with baggage screeners, canine teams and air marshals, are reporting to work as scheduled, according to TSA spokesman Mark Howell, though support and administrative TSA workers not deemed essential are subject to furloughs.

9:11 a.m.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park remained open Saturday morning. People were spotted jogging through the park and climbing the mountain.

The National Park Service, which operates some popular historic attractions in Georgia, said its parks would “remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures.”

“However, services that require staffing and maintenance, such as campgrounds and full-service restrooms, will not be operating,” National Park Service spokesman Jeremy Barnum said. “The American public and especially our veterans who come to our nation's capital will find war memorials and open-air parks open to the public.”

Decided against going in the nick of time. Looking glassy on the lake cam now.
btw, the anemometer etc at LLSC is now accessible via the "Web Cam" link -> "Latest Weather Updates" default is LLSC but you can go to other stations nearby.

Anyone go ? Based on the web page seemed to have some winds in Gainesville. In town here it was probably 5-10, despite what was being reported.

Sophie and I went windsporting yesterday on the sailboat. Good wind between 1 and 3pm with some whitecaps.
For those who have foil boards or 8m+ sail and large board it would have been nice day.
