Re: saturday

It was 34F when I arrived at Lake Lanier. I sailed with Chris P. and we didn’t go out past the island. Gene and Lisa stopped by, but Gene determined it too cold to sail.

The temp. was 32F when we came in off the water, and 30F after stowing our gear - according to my car thermometer. The wind was bitterly cold, but great for sailing, and I had a good time. Any colder and I wouldn't go.

Re: saturday
I tip my hat to the fellows that went out yesterday. Glad you had a good time. Chris's post made me recall this place, Turnagain Arm, which I'd read about a long time ago.
Join a group of guys as they go Windsurfing in some of Alaska's toughest waters. Alaska's Turnagain Arm experiences the second highest tides in the world, often up to a 38-foot change in water level. Bore tides, a rare natural phenomena when the front of an incoming tide is a moving wall of water from 3 to 5 feet high, can be witness during extremely low tides in Turnagain Arm. A good time for sure!

Re: saturday

If anyone thinks sailing at Lake Lanier in winter is crazy, go to to Alaska.

I notice the video starts out talking about 2 guys who died there. Turnagain Arm does warm into the 60's during summer, but it rains much of the time and there is deep mud. Notice the guys climbing over boulders to launch. Love the vintage WindWing sails. I still have a 3.7m green WindWing that I sailed on our epic trip to Fred Howard Park last winter. I used it on the day the steel tower holding the wind gauge blew over.

Here's a photo of Chris P. sailing yesterday from Van Pugh and, for the record, the temperature when we came off the water.

Re: saturday

Does anyone else always find it suspicious how someone's temperature gauge always reads 32 degrees? Just sayin' Biggrin

I can neither confirm nor deny that this is actually on ebay.

Georgia really ought to go onto the Centigrade scale, at least in the cold weather months. It would be much more impressive to call your friends in places like New York or California and tell them "Damn it's cold here - we were 3 below zero last night. Went out windsporting today and it only got up to zero."

Randy, Greatest American Hero was a greatly under-rated show. Having said that, Tove Lo went topless at Music Midtown. Even two hundred yards away, she had my attention. (I'm smart enough not to emoji this comment.)

Okay, let's take up a collection and get Randy some kiteboard lessons during his next OBX trip. Biggrin
