Wind Wednesday?

Is tomorrow the day we've been waiting for? Temp in the mid 50's and wind, some wind at least from the East. OK, so there is a 25% chance of light rain, but it's probably going to be misty, or light drizzle passing through. Anyone up for sailing at Van Pugh?

Are the geese still a problem at Van Pugh? A pic a buddy sent me the other day. Randy, how come these aren't upside down like the kangaroo?

Uh - these guys are North Pole Penguins. It's a lot safer there now that the polar bears are on the run.

Keeping Canada safe from immigrant penguins. btw, Barrett, when 50 degrees and rainy is "the day we are waiting for", it doesn't say much good about us. I suspect you'll have company all the same. A friend of mine might opt for something floaty.

Or it could be the penguins were just following their GPS on their way to the South Pole.

I plan to arrive at Van Pugh by 11AM to take advantage of East wind. Forecast now shows rain after 2PM.

Re: Wind Wednesday?

Wow, what a great morning and antidote to the recent big chill. Not much wind when we got there but Mr. B and I both rigged light air gear. He did his orange JP SLW w/ 8.5 and I sailed my maiden voyage on my Tillo Convert with foil and 7.0. We both were planing/flying about 80% of the time with barely any whitecaps. The temps ticked up to the high 50s and getting out of our wetsuits was not a life endangering process. Barrett had some screaming rides in the smooth water in the puffs - there was almost no boat traffic.

But, the water is pretty brisk. You don't want to spend much time in it.

And, I answered the question: Is a foil board worth it? Yes, with out a doubt. Coming from a 14 yr old board, it made a lot of difference having everything - foot straps, mast track, etc - in the right place. It was so easy to get planing in the straps and just nudge the board up in the air. I wish I could have afforded it earlier.

Really excited about things warming up and getting some good sessions this spring.

I'm so glad we got out yesterday. Webguy's report is spot on. I'd just like to add how nice conditions were. Instead of rain, the sky cleared and we had glorious sunshine and warmth. I actually dropped in the water once to cool off in my 4-3 wetsuit. The car thermometer read 60F around 1PM when i came in to de-rig. William was in control with his new dedicated foil board, having long smooth runs.
