So you think it's cold in Atlanta??? Take a look at conditions in Erie. My Brother sent the following photo.

It is cold in Atlanta. It's just colder in Erie. Biggrin

But, at least we won't be getting snow like... Florida? North Florida today:

The Florida snow forecast will be a disappointment to my Brother, Philip. He just escaped 5 feet of snow in Erie, by driving south to his home in Jacksonville. I guess we'll have to put off plans to windsurf in the sunshine state.

Well, it is Florida. It'll warm up quickly. Sunday it will be in the 50s and next week in the 60s. That ice in Erie will be there a while. When does it thaw there? I feel like I remember ice on Lake Michigan into mid March. I could be wrong.

Anyways, to a snowbird, temps in the 50s means shorts and open toe sandals. Biggrin

Hey at least it will be sunny! I'll be out kiting most likely Old Fed if anyone else wants to join me in testing out the temperature rating on their neoprene Smile

I was out at Old Fed last Saturday all by my lonesome. Was trying to post but I can't get logged in on my phone for some reason. Beautiful day-- will post some video when I get around to uploading it.

Hopefully see some of you tomorrow!

David, I'm glad to hear you got out and are thinking about going tomorrow (Jan 4th). I'm also thinking about going tomorrow if I have company. Don't know if I'll just think about it, or actually go. A little ice on my sail is OK, but don't want gear to freeze up, so need a high above 32F. My cell is 404-394-2007.

It now looks way too cold tomorrow. Count me out. Slight hope Friday will be above freezing with wind.

I'm concerned about black ice but all ice matters. Having this kind of ice cold weather in Florida has certainly turned their world upside down.

For those like me who aren't very smart, bomb is actually the meteorological term for this

Quote:

bomb
An extratropical surface cyclone with a central pressure that falls on the average at least 1 mb h-1 for 24 hours.

This predominantly maritime, cold season event is usually found approximately 750 km downstream from a mobile 500-mb trough, within or poleward of the maximum westerlies, and within or ahead of the planetary-scale troughs.

Sanders, F., and J. R. Gyakum 1980. Synoptic–dynamic climatology of the "bomb". Mon. Wea. Rev.. 108. 1589–1606.

Someone I know was jogging down at Van Pugh this morning and took this adorable picture of some dogs frolicking in the water.
