We need to bombard our congressmen with calls for the next three weeks.

I tried calling them and I kept getting this response:

Your call is very important to us. Not so important that anyone here will actually answer the phone but we have provided a convenient menu to help you with your call. Please press 1 if you want to make a donation with a credit card. Press 2 if you want to send a check. Press 3 if want to use Paypal. If you are calling for any reason other than making a donation to our next campaign, please press the "End Call" button on your phone.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

I received an email from one of our "esteemed" Senators today. He trusts the ISPs to do the right thing by providing us choice without government regulation.

You know, kind of like the meat industry used to do before the big gubment FDA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upton_Sinclair#The_Jungle

Meanwhile: Comcast hints at plan for paid fast lanes after net neutrality repeal Yeah, that didn't take long.

I'm fine with government regulation of some things, but the 'net' is not one of them. In the long run, net neutrality will stifle and limit internet options (along with increasing the prices).

Why do you think it will increase prices in the long run? (Old econ joke: in the long run, we're all dead.)

I agree it will jack up prices, Probably added sir charges for people accessing streaming video, bitcoin mining ect...
And worse of all the possibility of blocking free speech.

Not sure I understand - you think that NN will jack up prices or proposed roll-back will raise prices?

I misread Chris's post, I believe doing away with NN will eventually raise prices. I could be wrong, I was once before. ; )

I did do a bit more research on it after my last post though.

If they succeed to do away with NN, ISPs will be able to split the net into packages. You will no longer be able to pay one price to access any site you want. like, for instance, You could subscribe to a streaming video package, a gaming package, email package, social media package or some sort of breakdown like that. So on one hand, if you didn't want the social media and gaming package it might save you a little money but if you want all of the packages, the sum total of all the package will end up costing you more than what you are paying now.

The deregulation would be worse than the price gouging. It would leave the broadband providers free of oversite. Companies like Comcast, AT&T, Verizon could pick winners and losers on the Internet by controlling which online companies get the better quality of service and at what price. Comcast and AT&T and Verizon all have been caught throttling in the past until the FCC demanded they stop.

Big Corporations don't usually want things to change that will make them make less money or give them less control.

India agrees with you: http://www.thehindu.com/business/Industry/internet-an-important-platform-should-be-open-and-free-r-s-sharma/article21039915.ece

Quote:
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman R.S. Sharma has called for the Internet being kept open and free, and not cannibalised.

“No one owns the Internet... so, it should be open and accessible to everyone,” Mr. Sharma said, suggesting that service providers should not indulge in gate-keeping of this important platform.

I don't expect anything free, just open.

I'm pretty sure free as in freedom (think Richard Stallman and "free" software https://www.fsf.org/about/what-is-free-software ).

Epilogue - millions of comments posted on the FCC website in support of killing net neutrality we fake. (So were some in favor, but they were vastly out numbered.) The good news, of course, is that the politicians decisions were not influenced because they don't really care what the public thinks anyway.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/kevincollier/new-yorks-ag-has-subpoenaed-14-groups-over-the-net?bfsource=relatedmanual

"The New York Attorney General’s office has subpoenaed 14 organizations in its ongoing fraud investigation into who misused millions of people’s names and identifying information to file fake comments on the FCC’s proposal to kill the rules protecting net neutrality."

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
