Alex Morales (Tillo) on foils and Miami races

I can't believe I missed this via Dimitris's (zaosan) blog https://hitthewave.wordpress.com/2017/04/29/windsurfing-miami/
(Alex was my source for my foil)

Alex, on his Facebook page, says wind was 6-10. Riding Avanti 8.4.

I guess he's not as good as Robby. Robby can foil one handed in light wind in a 4.7 wasn't it?

Robby is our Chuck Norris. He once planed with the sail mounted to the back of a polar bear, I heard. Robby doesn't wait for wind. He stares intently at the horizon and the gods deliver. Robby doesn't need a harness - the boom grabs to him. Robby doesn't waterstart - dolphins swim under him and nudge him back on the board.

Nice video. Thanks for posting. Glad to see they are still at or near the top of the sport.

So who won - Big Foot or Grave Digger?

Is it just me, or do most of these foiling videos show folks sailing in a straight line? How easy is it to turn using a foil?

They are racing so more likely to go in a straight line in action shots.

How easy is it to turn? From my perspective, I have another jibe mountain to climb. Supposedly, it's supposed to be not that much different but I'm not on that part of the curve so I can't say. The pros do a full foiling jibe - but, they're pros, aren't they?

Kites, however, make it look easy. It's fun watching a kiter just do little figure eights on a foil.

If they were smart they would make them bi-directional. Then turning would be easy.

I beg to differ. More like a 3 foot tall stump. That's running through the forest. Biggrin

I think the kids call it "directionally fluid" these days.

Or perhaps "directional neutral".

Turning is just like on a shortboard only being way up yonder, it feels weird. Like this, but without a purse:

I think of this when talking about "directionally neutral" (but without the purse):
