Sailing 8 / 13 ?

I am going to try and sail tomorrow around noon.
Where is a good spot to launch from with a South wind?

But it might be a good day - would be interesting to see how much the boat traffic has dropped off now that school has started. A few weeks ago, Galts was crowded on weekdays. Yesterday it was a ghost town.

Due S - I like Mary Alice for that. ($5 entry fee if you don't have Forsyth Co. annual pass - COE passes don't count.)

Is there a place to rig at West Bank Park and would that be a good place to sail from on a South wind day?

Vanns Tavern should be pretty sailable on a S. The lake runs SW/NE on the main channel. A bit of a wind shadow from the islands, though, if it goes past S to SW.

Tidwell is fairly open, too.

Yes (on rigging) but No on direction. West Bank Park on due S would be straight off-shore - and likely very little wind near shore. It might be possible to drift out from there, but getting back in would likely be a problem.

Tidwell isn't that far from West Bank and is a good spot for South winds.

Remember not to park in the long spaces reserved for boat trailers. Smile

Not sure if you are required to have a parking pass at Tidwell if you aren't launching a boat.

That's an interesting question - I've been there too many times to count, but always had an annual pass. I think they have one of those little boxes you can put money in but its probably the "honor system." If you need info on getting an annual pass (its good for 12 month - $30 last time I bought one but it may be a little more now) let me know.

I usually unload my gear near the boat ramp and then park by the rest rooms.
