More foil comments on boards.co.uk

So so much going on there it's impossible to summarize.

Good place to start with some of the latest posts. Make sure you read Antointe Albeau translated interview and Flying Roo's experience in the gorge with a training foil with varying mast heights (and heads! - powerbox owners rejoice)

I can relate to FlyingRoo's comments... except where he says "day" (Day 1, Day 2 etc), I would substitute "month" Shok

Underwhelmed. All those shots are in glass-like water. No macho moves, no cool stunts. The riders are motionless. I've seen the stuff Kai Lenny can do and this is like walking to the mailbox for him.

Sure, it seems like a good idea but compare it to this:

(but one of those motors would really help out planing on light air days. Just sayin')

edit: Eh, they took it off line. Pretty much the same as you see below.

So are you saying it's done with photoshop?

Anyway - I may be mistaken but I think we have more days at the lake that are glassy and smooth than any other condition.

I didn't mean to suggest it was staged - just that for the masses, tooling along on an electric scooter won't compare to the cheap thrills of a jet ski. Yeah, it's cool in a Prius sort of way ... Biggrin (image altered to make it a bit more family friendly)

Looks a lot easier that doing it with a windsurf board or kite. Come to think of it - there may be a way to get the muscle car "fringe benefits" with the Prius type tech - just get the efoil and a small kite trainer kite. You could fly the kite and make it look like it was providing the power, when in reality its the motor (whereever they are hiding it.) I doubt most people would realize that the kite is just a prop.......

I think when the kite is behind* you will be a tell. Biggrin

*instead of to the side or front

Hey Chris, sorry if I sounded harsh. I was in a cranky mood. I'm still cranky but I was then, too.

30km round island race in 30 knots. Windfoil winds over kitefoils basically in survival contest.

Quote:
I started believing that I could make it to the finish. The upwind was tough... lots of focus on keeping the foil balanced flying high over the waves. Wonderful feeling! When we rounded the last point before a long downwinder, there was only one kitefoil and me in the front, and I managed to win the battle because I could go deeper, without any crashes. Average speed for the race was 22 knots+.

Here in Scandinavia there are strong plans for windfoil events already. One of them is a NeilPryde One Design class already from 2017, and looking at the interest and attention that foil is already creating, I am sure we are talking about another revolutionary step for the windsurfing sport!
