Wind anywhere this week?

I'm glad I found a message board for wind sports in the area! I'm new to kiting in GA...previously kited in the SF Bay Area. Any shot of decent wind (just ridable w/ a 12 m kite small surf board) within reasonable distance from Atlanta this week? Thanks!

So, who wants to break it to him?

Re: Wind anywhere this week?

It was breezy in Charleston when I was there this past weekend. Part sea breeze, part wind getting sucked into thunderstorms just inland.

Charleston is 5 hours from here.

Welcome to Atlanta. It's a great place to live. It's just not very wind when it's warm. Cray 2

Thanks for hanging with us. The local kiters will post when they are thinking about going to Lanier (typically Old Federal or Vann's Tavern). And, while you are on the east coast, plan a trip to Hatteras and a bunch of spots in Florida.

Atlanta: rig big or go home. Biggrin

(Now might be a good time to get a foil board, though.)

Well, depending on what is meant as "driving distance" the Outer Banks (600+ miles) looks windy enough.

Marek and Trey have done it for a weekend. Hardcore in my book but mad respect for the enthusiasm.

Tomorrow morning is possible opportunity. The WU 2 day model shows the pattern below. While not very impressive - easterlies often outperform the forecast (though this happens a whole lot more often in the non-summer months.) You have to get there early and be ready to go. Wind usually dies pretty quickly too after it peaks around 10-11 am. For kitesurfing I think Vann's Tavern is preferred spot, but the real kiters should weigh in on that. Note - the other forecasts are not in agreement on this one so its not a sure thing, but I find WU is the best source for easterlies. I call first thing in the morning and if there's wind from the east (even if only 6-7) I usually go and hope for the best.

Of course, it doesn't always work. Sometimes it just rains instead.
