I need one that will allow me to go in shallow water. All I have now is a long pointer.

Spendy but this could salvage a week at Rodanthe or Florida for someone

Or you could buy this one, which I have for $35. Its about 11-12 inches long. Despite how it looks, it is a Tuttle box fin.

There is no off season.

Looks really easy to do. Also, it only took 4.55 minutes to complete, including overnight drying.

I am going to stick with your other suggestion. Just put the weed fin on. This plan seems a lot simpler for a simple person. But, please don't call me simple my name is Groot!

Webguy, I didn't catch what he used to make the base out of. I thought it might be carbon fiber and epoxy the final product is not black. Do you think he just used a mix of epoxy and fiberglass?

There is no off season.

for some reason, the button to go directly to youtube isn't working on that vid.
Here's the address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JCCBHW646k
looks like he just presses in chopped glass or matt into the mold. I guess on a shorter fin, it doesn't have to be super strong. Probably with a bunch of glass in there, it's stronger than the board deck and box anyway. If you poke around his videos, he does a neat one where he builds a custom carbon tuttle box.

Every time I watch the video, I feel a little bit of this:
