Wind This Friday Afternoon

The forecast is for warm & windy late this afternoon. Anyone up for sailing Van Pugh?

Maybe. Between 2-5. It's been a crappy week. I need a diversion. Plus, more cold air on the way.

Sounds like a plan. I'll check Wind Mapper before leaving and give you a call to confirm.

We're back from Death Valley. Thanks to 1/3 inch of rain, Bad water Basin looked like a lake when we arrived. I guess the water was only 1/3 inch deep, because by the time we drove over to check it out, the heat had dried it up. Randy would love this place with his land board, windy and a pancake flat surface.

Went to the river around 3 or 4 but only went out for about 10 minutes. Most wind I've ever seen at this place. PDK was reporting 18-29 around that time. Went out with my 2 M kite, and made a go of it briefly, but decided it wasn't worth it. Probably more windsurf/shortboard conditions if you can imagine that. The Baby Gorge living up to the name I've given it.

Did it get uber windy at the Lake?

There is no off season.

William was out on the water with his 8.0m sail when I arrived. Gene & Ed rigged 7.5's. I rigged my 7.0. The wind came in gusty at first, then at 5PM it suddenly filled in, blowing in the low 20's. From 5PM until near sunset it was steady and strong. It was a great session with planning jibes & warm enough to not need gloves or a hood. Photo is attached of Ed sailing.
