Report from Outer Banks

We arrived in Nags Head Saturday afternoon, rigged up and were treated to a spectacular sunset sail. As the sun set in a clear sky, the moon rose in the opposite direction. The photo is of Randy sailing against the setting sun on Roanoke Sound.

Re: Report from Outer Banks - Saturday to Monday

We've had three epic days in a row since arriving in Nags Head. Sat. evening was warm with 20 mph wind. Sunday was chilly (mid 50's) and blew in the mid 20's all day from the NW. This morning the wind was 25 mph from the North and dropped as the day went on. It looks like biking & surfing weather until Friday when the wind is forecast to blow again from the North.

The photo is of Philip & Randy from the upper deck of our house on Sunday afternoon.

Re: Report from Outer Banks - Unexpected Wind

Today was forecast to be light & variable, but being the OBX, the forecast was wrong in a good way. While riding our bikes we noticed a slight breeze. By the time we got back to the house it was white-capping and Randy was out on a 6.6m sail. Ted & I Rigged big & sailed a short session in shorty wetsuits.

This is such a beautiful place that it's easy to feel isolated from the problems of life. This visit is different. We're missing our good friends Mel & Alice. Mel was diagnosed with prostate cancer and despite surgery and chemotherapy, the cancer returned and they were unable to come. We also got news yesterday that our elderly Father fell and broke his upper leg bone, so my Brother, Phil & wife Betsey left for Erie to be with him. Fortunately we got word that he came through surgery with a good prognosis.

That Randy. He's always the guy with the most water time. Props to him.

B., sorry to hear that you couldn't escape real life while on OBX. Thinking of you, your family and friends.

BARRETT
Thank you for your ibex report
Since I was with you there last year I have boat 2 new boards and sailed quite a bit. My skill level has improved some with a long way to go.
I remember meeting Mel last year and could tell how fond a friend he is to you.

Sorry about the reality check. Keep sailing -there is no better pain killer

Re: Report from Outer Banks

Today's forecast of no-wind turns out to be accurate as pictured below. Peggy & Ruth have gone shopping. Randy is seeking enough wind to fly his experimental kite at Jockey's Ridge, and Ted & I are going Boogie-boarding on the ocean side this afternoon.

Peggy says "pretty colors".
Alain comments "a lot of kilometers".
Gene will want to know how fast you went.
I wonder how many tracks were Windsurfing vs. Kiting?

Re: Report from Outer Banks

I don't know how much was windsurfing v. kite pulling the SUP vs. me paddling the SUP. However, the SUP part was only the last 2 days, and Friday, at least the windsurfing was quite a bit more distance. I do recall on Friday I paddled and SUP with the kite for between 6-7 miles while my total for the day was 20.7. Of course, I wasn't doing the SUP stuff once the wind got strong in the afternoon. Thursday was all SUP paddle and kite.
