Drew and I are headed to Oregon

Since there is no wind here and it seems that Webguy is a bit bored, I submit the following:

We will sail the event site on Sat. June 15th - check the wind - http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/hood_river - looks like a 6,5.

Then two days of dirt bikes in Hood River. - http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/oregon_14453/ride_2a58.htm - looks like it will be 93 degrees when we ride.

Then four days at Floras Lake ( Thanks to Pat Park ). - http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/cape_blanco_floras_lake - looks like 1.5 - notice the air temperatures, water temp is 66 degrees. Here is the web site - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Floras-Lake-Windsurfing-Kiteboarding/117314784983464 - Take a look at this place on google maps, very interesting.

The dirt bikes on the Oregon Dunes.

BTW, Gail is going too. She will be in control of the camera.

Full report when we come back with video.

David,

The Event site is good for first time at the Gorge, but check with the shops in the morning before you head out. The Gorge is windy most days in the summer, but on most days it's not windy everywhere on the Gorge. You could have glass water in Hood River and 4.7 conditions 15 miles further east...it all depends on the pressure gradients and the marine cloud line location.
Hope you have a really good time, it’s a really really cool place.

David,

Update...Temps have moved up quite a bit in last 2 weeks. I was on 5.5 at Hatchery yesterday was on the hot side in my 5/4. Few guys were in shorty suits. A dry suit or streamer may be getting a bit too hot now.

Yep, June it is...same calendar last I checked...water is from the mountain snow melt and it comes out from bottom of the dams upriver...60F in water and 80 above it, if you never blow a jibe you are ok in your speedos, but ain’t nobody got time for that.

We are only sailing the Columbia one day. The other days will be at Floras Lake and that air temp is mid 50's with water at 66.

I can make the dry suit work if it gets warm. Wed. is 97 air temp in Hood River but Thursday drops to low 80's. My sail day Sat.

Here's one of my bestest buddies, Townsend, standing on top of Mt. Hood last Saturday. If my timing is right, peelskid will be windsurfing in whatever water is melting off his boots

And it begins like this:

Thursday, 4.2, 93lt board, blowing gusts to 42mph, 2 hr session, no jibes made, lots of water starts, more work than fun. No pictures because my photo person sat in the car because of too much wind. Not very many people on the water. Maybe 2 windsurfers and 8 kites.

Had a tostada from Gustouvos truck for dinner. Boy was that good. That's our first time at a food truck.

Drew arrives tonight at 11pm.

Next sailing day will be Sat. with Drew.

Re: Drew and I are headed to Oregon

Sitting here in Hood River, Oregon waiting to be picked up Sunday & Monday for what the guide says is World Class riding.

Sunday is supposed to be a 45 mile loop in the Mt. Adams area of Washington State.

Andrew and I are doing this guided ride along with windsurfing here on the Columbia River.

Next week we move to south coastal Oregon to windsurf at Floras Lake, and ride the Oregon National Dunes.

Stay tuned for pics and video.

Weather is perfect. Hood River is 80H and 50L very dry with lots of sun. Coastal weather is 57H and 50L heavy wind, sunny. Water temperture is 65 degrees.

Re: Drew and I are headed to Oregon

Rode Mt. Adams yesterday. start 9:30 back at the truck at 4, sunny, 70 degrees, no rain, no mud, small amount of dust. I am having s card issues so hopefully video soon. Awesome ride with big views. The guide was impressed with our riding ability. We could hang with him.

We lucked out on the weather. Thursday was sailing day with gust to 42 mph then Sat. was sunny 80 degrees with gusts to 25 mph. Then the river went calm with zero wind on yesterdays dirt bike ride day. How lucky is that? Today, Monday, getting ready to ride again and today is another no wind day. Lots of bitchin going on with the sailing crowd.

Dirt bike guy is also a windsurfer.

Heading for Floras Lake Tue. The wind is nuking at Floras 35 mph. Gear will be rigged and ready to go for $40 per 1/2 day pp. At least I won't have to haul the gear and rig it myself. I figure I can only sail 1/2 day anyway in 35 mph winds.

How 'bout sending 15mph of that wind in a UPS package to us. You get a nice 20 mph day on a 6.5 and we get something.

Sounds like a fun trip.
