I was about 3/4 of a mile from the launch when I got catapulted. I guess my arm just happened to be in the wrong position when I was thrown down on top of the sail. As I was floating in the water I could barely move my left arm, but my hand was still working. I had never had a dislocated shoulder before, but assumed that was what had just happened. There was nobody around. After 10 minutes or so I made a successful waterstart and was able to get reasonably close to shore. I tried another waterstart but was too painful so I held onto my gear with the good arm and kicked my way in. Thanks Barrett for derigging my gear and putting it in my car and kiters for getting my harness and gloves off and getting me in my car. They got my shoulder back in place at the hospital.
Good luck with your recovery. I recall that Raphael Furcal (former Braves SS) dislocated his shoulder one year and was out the rest of the season, so it sounds like a serious injury. Glad you made it back safely. Give me a call when your ready to go out again.

I am curious to hear what happened. Did he hit his shoulder? Or was there a pre-existing condition?

Al,
Sorry to hear about that. How long before you are back on the water? Will it affect your cycling, or other sports?

Randy,
I'll be wearing a sling for 3 weeks, then physical therapy after that. Not sure how long it will be before I can resume normal physical activities...
