Scott Geddie (7.0 & AHD Diamond 78), Nick (?) (5.5 & F2 Zantos 285), and myself (6.5 & F2 Phoenix) sailed at Sunrise Cove, Lanier from about 3:00 PM till 7:00 PM. Winds initially seemed SW 10-15 mph and gusty. At 4:00 PM a thunderstorm swept through causing a 30 minute rain delay. After that winds were about W 0-25 and gusty. It was very challenging sailing. The 1-2' shop comming from all different directions didn't help. I did manage quite a few nice planning runs though. If my sore muscles are any indication, it was a successful session.
Hey - Coming home from Greenville, I decided to sail at Green Pond on Lake Hartwell - good on various directions, but deep SW fetch. Good 5.6, but typical SW gusty & variable. A little before 5:00 and just beating major sqalls, I headed down I-85. I was tired, hungry, and my knee was sore, but I decided to go by Van Pugh. As I made my way over by way of some back roads, the quality of the light began to change - it was clearing - quite beautiful. By the time I got to Van Pugh, it was totally going off. I rigged 4.7, and ripped for about 1-1.5 hr. Also there were Tim,Gene,Phillip,Val, Dave Delozier. It was the most fine, happening hour since October here, maybe better.
Actually, I did make it out to Galts in the late am, early pm. Turned out to be a really interesting day. Was very gusty, but the gusts were peaking out at 15-20 mph, lulls close to zero. Some gusts covered almost the entire lake, others were only 10 or 20 ft. in size. My 7.2 was just about right in the gusts on my Start and 62 cm fin. My 6.0 was too small. Since the wind was sw, the water was very FLAT. This made for some really fast sailing. In the good gusts, it was probably as close to Aruba as you could find in this area. In the lulls, it was a good imitation of a summer day at Galts Ferry! (To bad there were more lulls than gusts.) Interesting in that you could easly see gusts coming and get ready for the wind to accelerate from 0 to 20 mph is 1 second! I spent a lot of time looking over my shoulder. You could also see where one gust ended and the next started and try to run from one to the next w/o running out of air.

Glad you got out. I went Tuesday morning. Kim W. and I bobbed around for an hour when we both decided to quite. Good thing I was slower putting my stuff away. No sooner had he driven out the driveway when it filled in. Bang. 12-15. Sweet stuff on the Start. Sailed way up to play with the keel boats in the channel.
had to leave early to pick up the munchkins.

ps Kim, thanks for taking the karma hit. someone had to do it... there were only two of us up there and I guess you got the short straw. Better luck next time ;)

AS THE RAIN QUITE SPREEN WENTOUT ON A 55 AND HAD HUGE SWELLS THEN I FOLLOWED ON A 55 FOR A HOUR. THEN IT
