anybody sail lanier friday or saturday?

Has anybody been out?  I'm wondering if we are getting the dome effect with the air temps as high as they are... (where the wind skips right over the lake instead of coming down to the surface).

Or would juliette be a better choice (but 20 minutes further.)

Yeah, I tried to sail a 9.0 Saturday and it didn't even come close.  Ten minutes before arriving at Van Pugh, Gilmer airport gave me the best reading all morning 16 gusting to 24.  There wasn't one white cap, I had to pump to get back! Maybe Monday...

I sailed Lake Chatuge up inthe mountains Saturday.  At first I thought it might be decent - there were some strong gusts - rigged a 6.0, but the gusts turned out to be few and far between.  Still had some fun though.  I'm back and looks like there might be something later today.

Dunno about today.  Delozier's post has me worried. I hate to see all these trees moving and think I'm going to get skunked.  I think tomorrow it'll be cool enough to do VP without worries (the ngm models look great for tomorrow).  Maybe time to try Juliette again?

decisions decisions.  I'd love to have one of those nice w/SW days at Sunrise.

Juliette would be the call today.  SouthWest winds tend to be a little more consistent/stronger down there.  It is probably warm enough (plus the lake is just plain smaller than lanier) to avoid the dome effect.  It will probably be good since I have to catch up on work today!

Monday is a crap shoot.  NW winds are typically stronger at Lanier, but it won't do any good if ain't on the lake.  I will head to Juliette on Monday...

Re: anybody sail lanier friday or saturday?

You guys have made me feel much better.  Didn't have time to actually go sailing yesterday, though I did make it up to the lake to scout out a spot.

I was at Old 41 on Alatoona today.  It was pretty high gust factor, but very nice longboarding day. I would say it was lulls of 5 gusts to 12 or better. I was getting planing on my Equipe and Start (8.2) some of the time, but not that consistant.  Longboard was a better call railing upwind, most of the time......

My theory, btw, on the dome effect is to go to a smaller lake - less room for the colder water to stiffle the wind. Or on something that is closer to shore, even if it is not a highly favored direction, or even side offshore.  That's why I do Alatoona this time of year.

I was at Two Mile Access yesterday (w/o my gear - had too little time, but wanted to check it out).  It looked sailable and I measured 8.5-13.5 mph.  The wind was nw at the time.  This place is noted to be a much better spot for sw, but it looked like it might have worked, esp. with a longboard.  Looks like a nice spot, I'll probably try it out on the next sw.

I was on the Equippe on Saturday starting around 11.  It was pretty light, but I really wanted to sail.  Sailed to around 2.  Winds got up to a whopping 7 MPH! Whoa! My arms are still sore from uphauling.

But Sunday was the day at Lanier, boys.  I was on the boat starting at noon.  It was blowing a steady 12 MPH and increased to about 18 between 1 and 2.  There were the usual 30 deg. windshifts, but the windspeed was steady.  No boards out, just lots of sailboats.
